PRAMBANAN TEMPLE


prambanan is the largest hindhu temple compound in central java in indonesia.located approximately 18km east of jogjakarta.the temple is a UNESCO world heritage site and is one of the largest temples in southeast asia.it is characterised by its tall and palmted architecture,typical of the hindhu temple architecture and by the 47m high central building inside a large complex of individual temples.it was build around 850 CE by either RAKAI PIKATAN,king of the second mataram dynasty,or MALITUNG MAHA SAMBU,during the sanjaya dynasty.not long after its construction,the temple was abandoned and began to deteriorate.reconstruction of the compound began in 1918 the main building was completed in around 1953.much of the original stonework has been stolen and reused at remote construction site.a temple will only be rebuilt if atleast 75% of the original stone are available and therefore only the foundation wales of most of the smaller shrines are now visible and with no plans for their reconstruction.the temple was damage during the earthquake in java in 2006.early photos suggest that although the complex appears to be structurally intact damage is significant.large pieces of debris including carvings were scartered over the ground.the temple has been closed to the poblic until damage can be fully assesed.the head of jogjakarta archaelogical conservating agency stated that"it will take month to identify the precise damage".how ever some week later in 2006 the site re-opened for visitors.the immediate surrounding of the hindhu temples remains off limits for safety reasons.

borobudur



borobudur is a ninth century mahayana budhist monument in magelang,central java,indonesia.the monument comprises six square platforms topped by three circular platform and is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 budha statue.a main dome located at the centre of the top platform,is surrounded by 72 budha statue seated inside perforated stupa.the monument is bath a shrine to the lord budha and a place for budhist pilgrimage.the journey for pilgrims begins at the base of the monument and follows a path circumambulating the monument while ascending to the top throug the three level of budhist cosmology,namely kamadhatu ( the world of desire ) ,rupadhatu ( the world of forms ) and arupadhatu ( the world of formlessness ).during the journey the monument guides the pilgrims throug a system of stairways and corridors with 1,460 narrative relief panels on the wall and the balustrades.evidence suggests borobudur was abandoned following the fourteenth century decline of budhist and hindhu kingdoms in java and the javanese conversion to islam.worldwide knowledge of its existence was sparked in 1814 by sir thomas stamford raffles,the then british rule of java,who was adviced of its location by native indonesians.borobudur has since been preserved throug several restorations.the largest restorations project was undertaken between 1975 and 1982 by the indonesians goverment and unesco.following which the monument was listed as a unesco world heritage site. borobudur is still used for pilgrimage once a year budhist indonesia celebrate vesak at the monument and borobudur is indonesia's single most visited tourist attraction.

komodo dragon



the komodo dragon ( varanus komodoensis ) is a species of lizard that inhabits the island of komodo,rinca,flores,gili motang,and gili dasami,in central indonesia.a member of the monitor lizard family (varanidae ).it is the largest living species of lizard,growing to an average length of 2 to 3 metres ( 6.6 to 9.8 ft ) and weighing around 70 kg ( 150 lb ).their unusual size is atribute to island gigantism.since there are no carnivorous animals to fill the niche on the island where they live.and also to the komodo dragons low metabolic rate as result of their size.these lizard are apex predators dominating the ecosystem in which they live.although komodo dragons eat mostly carrion,they will also hunt and ambush prey including invertebrates,birds,and mammals.mating begins between may and august,and the egg are laid in september.about twenty eggs are deposites in abandoned megapode nest and incubated for seven to eight month,hatching in april when insect most plentiful.young komodo dragons vulnerable and there for dwell im trees,safe from predators and cannibalistic adult.they take around three to five years to mature,and may live as long as fifty years.they are capable of parthenogenesis,in which viable eggs are laid without fertilization by a male.komodo dragons were discovered by western scientists in 1910.their large size and fearsome reputation makes them popular zoo exhibits .in the wild their range has contracted due to human activities and they are listed as vulnerable by the iucn,they are protected under indonesia law and a national park,komodo national park was founded to aid protection effants.
